The Dongyue Temple rules. It's a Daoist temple located at Chaowai, just up from the Melody KTV. You've driven past it a million times, but probably never gone in. Go in. There are hundreds of crazy Daoist statues, all minor dieties of some kind. Totally unique and so accessible!

The shoesmaker Lao Xu situated along the GuLouDongDaJie ... he custom makes leather shoes that fit to a tee and they are affordable and lasting. Prices from 600RMB up and I had a pair of boots made before for 1000RMB, premium leather.

Near the Central Universities for Nationalities, there is a small little street called Wei Gong Cun. Although many don't peg Haidian as the "it-spot" for food, this street is brimming with ethnic restaurants. Where else in the world can you get Dai and Mongolian next door to each other? Not to mention there is a great Japanese place not far away and it also boasts a 24-hour restaurant!

Guozijian Lu. Nobody ever goes there, but I swear its the best pedestrian/bicycling street in all of Beijing.

Low hanging trees and silence. There is the Confucius temple on the Eastern side. A wide open road covered by an awning of green trees stretches down the middle. A few quiet coffee shops sprinkled along the way and a very interesting Lost and Found store in the middle.

This is the kind of road made for riding your bike up and down.

The Military Museum...you don't often read or hear people talk about it. It's actually, much, much more than the name implies. There are numerous historical photos, original documents, correspondence, artifacts, and videos in many displays. For someone interested in history, you'll find it rich in resources about the periods from early 20th century to the present. The founding of the Republic, the Communist Party, the Nationalist Party, the Boxer Uprising, invasion from Japan, Nanking massacre, civil war, founding and recent history of the PRC, the Korean War, and much more. Of course, there's also the usual stuff of weapons, planes, tanks, etc.

I am sure we have all been to or heard of many museums in Beijing. But do you know there is a Tap-Water museum?!!! It traces the history and development of drinkable water in Beijing and shows how public irriation systems have improved over the years.

The underground city of Beijing. Not many people have heard about it, not even locals. It was build many decades ago as a mass air-raid shelter, capable of housing millions of people. The stretch that is open to public now consists of only a network of small, narrow tunnels. At certain spots at their widest, the tunnels enable cars to pass through. It is an extensive network of tunnels which no one really knows how far and extensive, except rumours have it that it connects the tiananmen area to the beijing capital airport to facilitate evacuation of top officials in events of war emergency. Impressive.

Chuan Di Xia- If you want to see China in its Original. It is really worth seeing the old structure, how China was clustered as a small village with the original Motto of Mao Tse Dung!!! A must see!
